In Aalborg Municipality cycling is in focus in the planning of the city. The Municipality considers itself a Cycling City – “Aalborg Cycling City”. Thus “Aalborg Cycling City” is a vision to get as many cyclists as possible and “Aalborg Cycling City” is furthermore actions to fulfil the vision.

As part of Aalborg Cycling City different actions have been implemented including:

• Biking commuter routes
• Electronic bicycle pumps on the commuter routes
• Service stations where cyclists can fix their bike i.e. adjust the saddle height or make adjustments to the bicycle chain
• Lane lights that indicates a green wave for cyclists
• Cycling barometers that measure the cycling traffic and give information on speed, cyclist number and arrival time for the cyclists
• Biking priority and biking safety in crossings i.e. right turn cycling shunts allowing cyclists to go around the traffic signals and cycling boxes in front of the waiting cars that allow cyclists a head start

In addition Aalborg Municipality makes campaigns and activities in the city that is aimed at both bringing biking safety into focus and campaigns to attract new cyclists. This include the European Cycling Challenge, which in May is supplemented by the national campaign “Vi cykler til arbejde” (We are biking to work) and Cycling Score which like ECC is a gamification campaign but primarily aimed at school children.

Further Aalborg City will host the UCI Amateur Road World Championship in September 2015, which is the final race of the UCI World Cycling Tour.
